What to Wear in Skagway
Layers, rain gear and shoes for a day ashore.
By Greg Peters, editor · Updated October 2026
Skagway weather can change within hours. Summer days usually run from the 50s to low 70s °F, with rain possible on any day.
The essentials
- Waterproof outer layer. A packable rain jacket beats an umbrella on windy docks.
- Warm mid layer. A fleece or light puffy handles cold mornings and the railway summit.
- Real shoes. Boardwalks and gravel paths are easier in sneakers or light boots.
- Hat and gloves for the White Pass summit or glacier cruises.
- Small daypack for layers, water and a camera.
