Icy Strait Point
A Tlingit-owned cruise destination near Hoonah, known for whale watching and the ZipRider.
What to know
- The port is a dedicated cruise destination about a mile from the village of Hoonah.
- Humpback whale sightings are strong in summer.
- Excursions include bear viewing and the ZipRider zipline.
- Few independent shops and restaurants outside the port complex, so book tours ahead.
Getting around
Icy Strait Point has two cruise docks, Wilderness Landing and Ocean Landing, linked by a free gondola that takes about four minutes. The restored 1912 cannery, shops, restaurants, beach and trails are all at the port, and the Adventure Center where excursions start is near Ocean Landing. The village of Hoonah is about 1.5 miles away along a waterfront walkway, or by shuttle (about $5 round trip). Source: alaskatrippers.com
